When applying self tanner, the first thing you want todo is start with clean exfoliated skin. You can exfoliate in the shower beforehand with a loofah, an exfoliating mitt or an exfoliating body wash that you might have. Next, when you apply the actual solution whether it’s in bottle form, mist form, mouse, gel, you want to put it on in an even circular motion. This is key to make sure that you’re not going to have any streaks or unevenness. When applying, you want to make sure to avoid any dryer areas. Don’t collect too much of the solution on elbows, knees, ankles or wrists. Use sparingly in those areas. They now make mitts for application, which actually work really well to help not only protect your hand from absorbing the solution when applying it, but it helps put on the solution much faster, easier, and more evenly.
After you have applied your self tanner, you want to make sure to immediately wash your hands afterwards. This will remove any self tanner from your palms and therefore ensuring that you’re not going to have any stained orange hands the following day. After application, you want to wait three to six hours for this sunless tanner to develop on your skin.During that time, you want to make sure not to sweat, go to the gym, rinse, get wet. Just let the self tanner develop on your skin. After that time period, you can take a shower and see how it looks. If you want darker results, you can then layer on another layer of self tanner to achieve darker results.
